Salvation Stories:

Leo

The atmosphere in the city was growing steadily more unsettled; uneasy. People walked where they needed to go with nervous energy, eyes on their screens. Leo had always been sensitive. Perhaps he felt more; thought more. Perhaps that was a good thing, but he often doubted it. He couldn't just bury his head in cloud cuckoo land like most people did. He was like a dog with a bone: he'd lay his questions aside, only to pick them up again. Someone, he thought, must surely have the answers.

"Where are you headed?" His friend Zane lifted his eyes from his screen for a moment. "It must be important for you to walk so fast."

"The bookshop. I need a Bible."

Zane stopped abruptly. "You need a Bible?"

"I've been doing some research. The Bible may have some answers to my questions about where the world is headed."

Leo began walking again, and Zane kept pace. He shook his head. "Don't go down that route, man. Only dumb people and homophobes believe the Bible."

"I can't know for sure unless I read it Zane." Leo remained patient. He could relate to Zane's viewpoint. He'd seen enough news articles to make him dubious about Christianity. But still, he wanted to give the Bible a chance.

"Well, waste your money if you want to. Cheers." Zane headed for the nearest takeaway, whilst Leo entered the bookshop.

The Bibles were tucked away at the back, but there was quite a large selection. The assistant eyed him warily and wasn't any help. Eventually, Leo chose a cheap softcover edition. Why spend a bunch of money on something that might not help him?

He jumped in at Genesis and waded doggedly on. He was looking for anything about Armageddon and the end of the world. Prophesies. That kind of thing. Leo drank cup after cup of coffee as he read, often deep into the night. He got a lot more than he'd been expecting. It was an astounding, extraordinary book. Nothing prepared him though, for Who he found in the New Testament: Jesus. Talk about extraordinary and astounding. Not to mention, revolutionary. He taught people to love their enemies and to give everything away. To forsake all and to follow Him before He Himself gave away His life on a cruel cross. A man who claimed to be God.

He spoke about the end too, and Leo saw his own world in the ancient book. As Leo turned page after page, a certainty grew in his heart: this Man, Jesus, was calling out to Him across the centuries with answers to his questions.

Battle. A Free Short Story.

Battle Evil swarmed and swooped thickly throughout the valley. Jonathan's sword slashed to the left and right. Sometimes, it arched through the air above his head, as infuriated hisses and screeches filled the darkness. To Jonathan's left and right, inky blackness was being pushed back by his companions. Stretched across the valley, they marched on, their swords slashing and crashing through the thick air, and bringing limp scaly bodies to the ground. The bright ones could not stop. Victory was not theirs yet, for the evil hordes kept coming. There were more than ever before it seemed, here at the closing of the ages. Jonathan grimaced as a foul creature landed close beside him. It screeched and bared its fangs in final rebellion. But Jonathan kept on. Supernatural strength coursed through his body, as more warriors joined the battle. They were nearing the far side of the valley now. The atmosphere remained black and grim: the battle was far from over. Jonathan's sword coul...

The Conversation. A Free Short Story

The Conversation  Gavin was so absorbed in his book, that he barely noticed that the train had stopped at a station. "Mind if I sit here?" He looked up. A young woman with friendly freckles across her nose and wide brown eyes stood in the aisle. He nodded, then smiled faintly and she quickly stowed her large backpack. "I'm Sybil." The young woman offered. "Thanks." "No problem. Travelling to Barton?"  "Nope. It's Dunmore I'm headed for. You?" "Same." Gavin was cautious. He wasn't sure he felt like a chatty companion. He'd been looking forward to finishing his book. It had hooked him from the first chapter. But thankfully, Sybil didn't bubble on. She just smiled before taking her own book out.  Gavin went back to his reading, not without noticing that it was a Bible that Sybil had opened. Unusual.   Sybil glanced towards him. She liked to study people, and would often strike up a conversation in the ho...

A September Medley

Psalm 81:3 "Blow the trumpet at the New Moon, at the full moon, on our feast day." Trumpet A trumpet sounds: A royal din: Our long-awaited Groom steps in. A joyful wedding  song now plays and we will love Him all our days. *** End Times Tales: Every Little Bit Counts. Lisa's father pointed his teaspoon in her direction as his brows drew together gloomily. "What's the point? There are masses of lost people in the city. What can one girl do? Besides," he added more gently. I don't want you getting hurt. People are just plain mean these days." He waved the spoon as Lisa quietly placed her books in her backpack. "It's not the old days anymore. Just like the Bible says, people are proud and boastful; scoffers, arrogant..." "I know, Dad, but I have to try. It's what Jesus wants me to do. There's so little time left before the Rapture." "Like shovelling sand with a teaspoon." Her Dad grumbled. Lisa shook her head...
