The Garden Helpers. A Free Children's Story

A story to read to your children :)

The Garden Helpers

By Alison Lawrence

Denny, Daisy, and Digger grabbed some clover, and pulled and pulled. The clover came out of the ground, and they all landed with a thump on their bottoms.

"Ouch!" Said Daisy, but she wasn't really sore. Denny, Daisy, and Digger, were very small, but they were strong little garden folk. They loved to help Mom to grow good things to eat. They also helped the pretty flowers to sparkle and shine.

They were careful not to let Mom see them as they did their work.

"I like the way God made flowers." Said Denny as he gave a thirsty sweetpea some water.

Mom was weeding the flower bed. She looked hot and tired. There were a lot of weeds. Too many weeds for Mom and the Garden Helpers to pull out.

"Mia and Toby should help Mom in the garden." Said Digger crossly.

"Yes," said Daisy sadly, "but they are always playing computer games and watching videos."

"We need to get them to come into the garden and help Mom." Said Digger as he fanned his face with his floppy hat.

"But how?" Asked Daisy, her big green eyes wide.

"Let's go home and have some of your delicious lemonade, Daisy. That should help us to think."

The little garden Helpers disappeared under a Lavender bush. They opened a small brown door. One by one, they went down a ladder into their underground home.

"Let's all think as hard as we can." Said Denny. And that is what they did, until they came up with a plan.

The three Garden Helpers climbed up a creeper and peeked through the lounge window. Mia and Toby were in their usual spot in front of the computer.

"Digger," said Denny, "you need to turn the computer switch off. Daisy and I will do the rest."

Digger slipped through the open window, and jumped lightly to the floor. Mia and Toby were too focused on the screen to see the little Helper as he slipped past them.

Click! Suddenly, the screen went dark. Daisy and Denny started to knock on the window. Tap! Tap! Tap! The children looked towards the sound. They gasped. Daisy was twirling and Denny was waving and winking on the window sill.

"Tiny people." Whispered Mia.
"Let's go!" Shouted Toby. He pulled Mia outside and they ran around the house to the window, but Daisy and Denny had vanished.

Toby and Mia ran all over the garden. They looked under bushes and looked up into the branches of the big tree, but they couldn't find the little folk.

"They must be somewhere," said Toby, "let's help Mom to weed. Maybe we'll see them if we get down on our hands and knees."

So they did. They pulled up clumps of clover next to a very surprised Mom, and now and again, they caught a glimpse of a Garden Helper. Daisy waved at them from behind the rosemary bush. Digger took off his floppy hat and bowed, and Denny flashed a big, big smile.

The Searching: A Free Inspirational Story

The Searching: A Free Inspirational Story Dear Readers, Here is a gift from me to you. "The Searching" is a story which has been puttering around in my heart for awhile. It nearly didn't get written though, as I was a bit unsure as to whether I could get it to work. But God is faithful, and He gave me both the inspiration and the words. There were a few times when I nearly gave up, but now, I'm so glad that I didn't. It's one of my favourites, and I hope that you enjoy it too.  *** Previous cover The Searching: A Novella *** By Alison Lawrence *** Copyright Copyright owner: Alison Lawrence. 2024 All rights reserved. Poems, Photos, and a Glimpse of my Garden.

Poems, Photos and a Glimpse of my Garden Rest of soul and peace of mind are hard for you  and me to find: Until we rest our  hearts in God; strength will falter, days grow hard A new day to pray, to love and give, A new day to serve, to work and praise, A new day to soak in Your precious peace I wish I could go back to all the happy days: to hold on to those moments, and sing a song of praise. Love and kindness I would bring, and serve the Lord much more. I truly wish it could be done through an old and hidden door. But since I cannot go back, to those sweet and bygone days, I'll give to Jesus all my heart so He can change my un-nice ways *** Copyright: pencil in His Hand *** St John's creeper New growth. Foxy's Christmas. A Christmas Story For Children And The Young At Heart

Foxy's Christmas *** Dear Readers, I am just popping in quickly with a Christmas present for you and your children. If you don't have any young children, don't go away, as it is also for anyone who is young at heart! *** Foxy was proud to have been chosen to sit next to the row of books on Mom's bookshelf. From the bookshelf, he had a grand view of the room and of all who passed by, for Mom's room was at the centre of the house. Foxy had heard her call it a "thoroughfare" in an irritated tone. But Foxy was glad that he hadn't been placed in a quiet corner. From his lookout, he could listen to Lyddie and Ruby tell Mom all about their stories and games. He was admittedly, a bit jealous of two characters named Mr Mushroom and Giraffe, who both seemed to have many adventures. Foxy was not a store bought toy. Mom had lovingly made him from brown, black, and white wool. He had a little black nose, brown button eyes, and a print bow. If truth be told, he wa...
