Writing for the Lord

‭Colossians 3:23-24 ESV‬
[23] Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, [24] knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.

Dearest Readers,

This post will contain my thoughts on writing, but this really applies to all we do. :)

When I first started writing more seriously, I believe my heart was right. I truly wanted to encourage people and to share the Gospel through my writing. With much help from God, I wrote my heart out. I wrote with passion. For Him.

There was really no thought of financial success. I did imagine possibly receiving a few donations, but that was all. I made the books available for free, but wasn't able to reach many people.

After a while, I stopped writing. I was busy.

It wasn't too long though, before I picked up my pen once more to write poetry, and later, short stories.

At that time, I began to look around for ways to make an income from home. I decided to publish my books on Amazon and see what would happen.

It was a good learning experience. I had never published anything  professionally before, and had to teach myself the how tos of self-publishing.

The down side, is that trying to sell books became my main focus. I was no longer truly writing for the Lord, even though I was writing Christian content. I had a noble cause, to help bring money in, but it wasn't enough.

Writing just so I can sell books and get nice reviews, is not what God wants for me. He wants me to write, (and work,) for Him. Just as I should do my chores for Him.

As I write content to bless, encourage, and share the Gospel, I must put my full trust in Him. God will provide for my needs. He is my Father and the one I work for.

I have not arrived at some place of perfection in obeying God in this, but I am learning and growing. And I am enjoying writing so much more.

I pray that this little post will also encourage you as you do your work for the Lord.

Blessings,

Alison

I'm happy to announce that the sequel to "The Yearning" will be posted on Monday, God willing. :)

The Searching: A Free Inspirational Story

The Searching: A Free Inspirational Story Dear Readers, Here is a gift from me to you. "The Searching" is a story which has been puttering around in my heart for awhile. It nearly didn't get written though, as I was a bit unsure as to whether I could get it to work. But God is faithful, and He gave me both the inspiration and the words. There were a few times when I nearly gave up, but now, I'm so glad that I didn't. It's one of my favourites, and I hope that you enjoy it too.  *** Previous cover The Searching: A Novella *** By Alison Lawrence *** Copyright Copyright owner: Alison Lawrence. 2024 All rights reserved. The Yearning: The Sequel to "The Searching." Free Longer Story

Inspirational fiction  The Yearning: The Sequel to "The Searching." Copyright: Alison Lawrence 2024. All rights reserved. *** Dedication: To all who are yearning for so much more. *** Chapter One (Author's note: Han is pronounced Hun.) It was only six o'clock in the morning, but Lidda could already feel it was going to be an unpleasantly hot day. She emptied her basket of cabbage scraps into the chicken coop, looking around for Han as she did so. He and his brother Vinny would have finished milking by now. No doubt they’d be in for breakfast soon. Lidda allowed herself a small sigh. She wasn't one to complain, but sometimes, the burden of her workload and of being a young wife rested very heavily on her shoulders. She entered the cool kitchen once more, and stirred the obligatory porridge before starting on the eggs. Her mind drifted quite naturally to Tirsa. Where are you dear one? How I wish you'd come back to us. Lidda missed her quirky free-thinking sist...

Flash Fiction, A Poem, Garden Glimpses, & an Update

Flash Fiction, A Poem, Garden Glimpses, & an Update In this post: a mini inspirational story, a poem, plus what's up in my garden, and a blog and writing update . A sparrow, yet loved and counted. Photo: Ratanjot Singh.Unsplash. Little One The little one watches from her spot in the old apple tree. She peeks through the canopy of bright green leaves and ruby globes. She watches while resting in shady, cool, calm. She stares at the rushing, busy, blurry people. Where are they going? Why so rushed? People of all sizes and styles, yet all with the same harried, frazzled, furrowed frowns. She cocks her head, then fluffs her feathers: just a little sparrow, yet loved, fed, and counted. While people rush and worry, she lives, and breathes, and feeds, and flies; before she falls, and softly dies.  In Him. *** End of Self Now at end of self, decided: Give my all to You. Lay down each rock, and burden, sin: and start each day anew. *** Garden Glimpses January here in the southern...
