Rapture Chronicles: Casey

Casey shook her head in disbelief: A runaway fire, torrential rain, and flooding. Plus three tornadoes. All in one day. And one tornado had torn through and area that was considered tornado free.

She took a sip of her fast cooling coffee, and her fingers clenched the polka dot mug. At least her area remained disaster free. For the moment.

At times like these, she wondered whether she should make mention of of weather events or world news on her You Tube channel. Hers was a homemaking channel. Strictly serene and inspirational. A weekly dose of slow living for hectic souls.

And yet, she couldn't help feeling a bit fake. With everything that was going on in the world, Jesus return must surely be close. Casey couldn't shake the feeling that she should be shouting out a warning. Was she lulling her viewers to sleep by focusing on everything nice, and cozy, and pleasing?

Casey took a quick swallow of her drink. "But people need a bit of peace Lord. Especially now. Besides, there are plenty of others sounding the alarm."

Casey stopped scrolling and began prepping for her video: she gathered the ingredients she'd be needing to make apple pie, and whisked around the house checking the lighting before donning a vintage style apron she'd chosen for the shoot.

Casey began to film herself as she peeled and cored apples, fully expectant that all would go smoothly as usual. But it didn't. Clouds rolled in, spoiling the lighting, which forced her to set up her ring light. Then, she nicked her finger on the peeler. She began again, this time, sporting a bright blue plaster. Later, as she stepped outside to pick a few prize blooms, the rain suddenly pelted down.

She went ahead, minus the flowers, but the kitchen looked dreary without them. As she looked through her footage later, it looked lacklustre. Half- heartedly, she did some voice-overs, but gave up after a short while.
Casey sat looking blankly at her computer screen whilst her thoughts whirled. Was God trying to tell her something?

The following day was glorious. Perfect for filming. Casey made her way to the garden, carrying her phone and tripod. She seated herself on a wicker chair amongst the pastel beauties and began. "Morning friends." She gestured to the flowers beside her. "It's hard to believe when you're surrounded by so much beauty, but the world is sure going crazy, isn't it? Bible prophecies are being fulfilled. The question I'd like to ask you today is this: Are you ready? Are you ready for Jesus' soon return?"

The Conversation. A Free Short Story

The Conversation  Gavin was so absorbed in his book, that he barely noticed that the train had stopped at a station. "Mind if I sit here?" He looked up. A young woman with friendly freckles across her nose and wide brown eyes stood in the aisle. He nodded, then smiled faintly and she quickly stowed her large backpack. "I'm Sybil." The young woman offered. "Thanks." "No problem. Travelling to Barton?"  "Nope. It's Dunmore I'm headed for. You?" "Same." Gavin was cautious. He wasn't sure he felt like a chatty companion. He'd been looking forward to finishing his book. It had hooked him from the first chapter. But thankfully, Sybil didn't bubble on. She just smiled before taking her own book out.  Gavin went back to his reading, not without noticing that it was a Bible that Sybil had opened. Unusual.   Sybil glanced towards him. She liked to study people, and would often strike up a conversation in the ho...

Not Much Time. Free Short Story.

Years have gone by, yet the phone call still plays clear as a bell in my mind. "He needs to come home. Please tell him. There isn't much time." The thin, frail voice of the caller lent weight to the urgency of her call. No, there couldn't have been much time. "Daddy, a lady called. An old lady. She said there isn't much time." I tiptoed up to his armchair. I spoke softly, hesitantly. I was only a child, and I knew nothing of his past. "She says, she says, you must go home." "No!" The armchair shook with the force of his rage. "No! And don't talk to that woman again."  No further calls came from the frail-voiced lady. At least, not that I know of. *** Daddy was nearing the end. The end of a long, long battle. I was in my forties, married, and with children of my own. "Who was she Daddy?" I asked gently, hoping with God's help to bring him to a place of peace and forgiveness. But his face tightened and he t...
