Encouraging Poems

Come

I want to write

a simple poem:

reach out to you,

invite you home.

The world is going crazy; wild

time now to come,

just like a child.

Trust in Jesus,

lay down all,

for soon this wicked world will fall.

A Quiet Life

Sometimes, I

want to hide away,

ignore the news,

the brawling fray.

All I want,

a cozy scene:

a cup of tea,

and scones and cream.

I quiet life is

what I crave,

beyond the storm,

the monstrous wave.

Now living on

the End-Times shore,

I fear this life

can be no more.

Yet, when I walk

Your Word so bright,

I feel a breeze,

a gentle light:

The quiet life

can there be found:

though war and trouble

shake the ground.

A cozy scene,

a bible worn,

as souls find Jesus;

now reborn.

True Rest

True rest cannot be found

In being lazy, lying around;

not in doing nothing

or in frittering my time,

nor in hobbies many

which fill my cluttered mind.

True rest, I know,

is found in Him:

The Jesus of my heart:

and even though my days be full,

of chores, and helping; more,

I know the One Who is my Rest:

He rescues and restores.

Night Walk

Walking in obedience,

trusting in Your grace;

leaning heavy on Your arm,

eyes fixed on Your face.

Though the night is falling,

and sun is sinking fast:

in faith I seek Your Kingdom,

store treasures that will last.

First Love

My first love is under siege.

The busyness of life

aims its pointy arrows

at the sacred place.

Distracting ups and

dismal downs

shoot blatantly

and often pierce their mark.

Martha, Martha,

you are full of cares;

brimming over with anxiety

instead of love...

Oh Lord, help me to return

to that place of fullness.

Where all I needed was You.

1 Thessalonians 4:9-12 ESV
[9] Now concerning brotherly love you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another, [10] for that indeed is what you are doing to all the brothers throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, to do this more and more, [11] and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, [12] so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.
