The Lake Of Light: A Free Short Story

The Lake Of Light

When Finn found the Lake Of Light, he rushed for it; allowed it to envelope him, to swallow him up. Enfold him.

There, he found what he'd been struggling and fighting for: Peace.

At first, he'd felt so ashamed as he'd looked down at his dark, ragged, sin-soaked clothes, but once he'd admitted his crimes, they were changed to glowing white in an instant.

Now, all around him, dwelt many light- changed people. They danced; they sang; they glowed. And he was loved. Loved by them, and loved by The One Who Dwelt In Light: The Creator of All.

And yes, The One True Light had also created the darkness.

Even now, Finn could see masses running towards the growing, pitch black abyss. Once he'd been one of them. He'd thought that he'd find covering for his own blackness there.

Now, he felt sick to his stomach as he watched the violent, crazed, drunken mob lurching for the darkness. And then he noticed that his companions were watching with horror too. "They will die!" The young woman beside him cried. "We must stop them!"

"But how can we leave The Light?" Finn wanted to shrink further back into comfort, but he forced himself to watch. To remember his own plight not too long before.

The young woman turned to Finn, her eyes true and sure. "There is no need to leave," she smiled, "for He goes with us, and has promised to never forsake us."

Finn felt strength fill his very core. "Yes! And He will be with us to the very end." And with that, he stepped out to help as many as he could.
