The Rose

I picked up the poor rose, which had been crushed under my careless feet, and tears sprang suddenly to my eyes as I stroked its bruised petals.

A picture of my Saviour, broken for me.

Surrender

Sojourner's feet dragged along the rough path. Some of the stones lying on it were sharp enough to poke the soles of his feet. His backpack chafed his shoulders, and he was fast running out of shade.

The landscape around him seemed as dreary and sad as his thoughts. And it was sojourner's sadness that threatened to end his journey.

It drove him to sit on a large boulder beside the road, and to weep in despair.

But then, in his darkest moment, he felt a sure, loving touch on his shoulder and heard the familiar voice of his Friend.

"Sojourner, give your sadness to Me. I have been walking alongside you since we began, but you have not yet surrendered it."

Sojourner straightened at once. He removed the black weight from his bag, and handed it to his Companion, and they journeyed on in joy.
