In God's Hands: A Short Story Plus More. Free Reads

"You're quiet." Said Scott to Lydia as they left church on Sunday evening. "Thinking about tonight's teaching?"

Lydia pulled her coat more closely around herself and shrugged. "Yeah. It's a lot to take in."

Their church was holding a teaching series on the Rapture and the End-Times. The speaker, Pastor Dilmore, was a respected student of Bible Prophecy.

Scott took Lydia's hand in his. "It is a lot to take in, but it's fascinating, don't you think? Imagine being snatched off the face of the earth in the twinkling of an eye."

The young couple had reached Scott's car, but Lydia made no move to get in. Instead, she stood silently and gazed up at the twinkling expanse above."

"Lydia, are you OK?"

"Not really." Lydia whispered.

"Let's go to The Coffee Bean. We can chat there."

The ride over to the coffee shop was a  quiet one, and Scott found himself thinking the worst. Was Lydia about to call off their engagement?

At The Coffee Bean, Lydia warmed her hands on her coffee cup, before finally finding her voice. "What if there's no time to get married, Scott? If the Rapture were to happen tonight, what would happen to us? People don't get married in heaven." She paused, and her damp eyes met Scott's across the table. "I love Jesus, Scott. I'm just not sure if I'm ready. I love you, and I want us to be married."

Scott covered his hand with his own and squeezed it gently." I want that so much too, Lyddie. I love you. And I can't wait for the day we stand before the altar."

"But what if we don't make it?"

"Lyddie, I don't know when Jesus is going to fetch us. No one does. But there's something we can do  while we're waiting. " Scott took out his phone and opened the Bible App. He quickly found the verse he needed and read it aloud. "Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding"

Scott handed his phone to Lydia. "Can you do that, Lyddie? Can you put your trust in Him? Trust Him with our love, with our lives, with our marriage and our future?"

Lydia studied the well known verse for a few moments before meeting Scott's tender gaze. How she loved this precious man. But she loved Jesus more. And that was the way it should be. The way Scott wanted it to be too. There was only one answer she could give. "I will."

As Scott squeezed her hand again, peace filled her heart and mind. She was going to entrust the future to God's care.

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5

I think that the inspiration for this little story must have come from the time when one of my children expressed reluctance for the Rapture to take place soon. He/she was hoping that there would still be plenty of time left for earthly hopes and dreams to be fulfilled. The child's eyes were focused on the things of the earth, not on the wonders of heaven and of eternity. My child's eyes were not focused on Jesus.

Of course, I did sympathize. I do understand where he/she was coming from. I also take care to emphasize to the children just  how wonderful our future life will be. The Bible tells us that nobody has seen what God has in store for us.

Every so often, I do an internal check up. Do I love God with all my heart? Is He number one in my life? And am I waiting and ready for His return?

Are you ready?

Blog And Writing

My books page has been revamped with pictures of my new book covers. It was fun to see what I could do to make them more professional. I was able to include a few of my drawings into some covers which makes them look more original.

Head over to the books/links page to check them out:

(Ps. The Mocha Mermaid is now available as a paperback too.) :)

I am making good progress on my next story. "Wren Comes Home," is a cozy inspirational romance. If you like simple country living and a good message, you may enjoy it. It looks like it will be novelette length. At the moment, writing short stories is what I enjoy most when it comes to writing. I may write a novel in the future, if that is God's will for me. Right now, I see how short stories are able to touch and reach people with more immediacy.  Longer books take longer to read, and many people simply do not have the time to read them. So that is where I am at the moment. :)

This illustration of my main character, Wren, will be incorporated into the cover.

Three pencil poems. :)

See you next Monday,

Keep shining,

The Conversation. A Free Short Story

The Conversation  Gavin was so absorbed in his book, that he barely noticed that the train had stopped at a station. "Mind if I sit here?" He looked up. A young woman with friendly freckles across her nose and wide brown eyes stood in the aisle. He nodded, then smiled faintly and she quickly stowed her large backpack. "I'm Sybil." The young woman offered. "Thanks." "No problem. Travelling to Barton?"  "Nope. It's Dunmore I'm headed for. You?" "Same." Gavin was cautious. He wasn't sure he felt like a chatty companion. He'd been looking forward to finishing his book. It had hooked him from the first chapter. But thankfully, Sybil didn't bubble on. She just smiled before taking her own book out.  Gavin went back to his reading, not without noticing that it was a Bible that Sybil had opened. Unusual.   Sybil glanced towards him. She liked to study people, and would often strike up a conversation in the ho...

Not Much Time. Free Short Story.

Years have gone by, yet the phone call still plays clear as a bell in my mind. "He needs to come home. Please tell him. There isn't much time." The thin, frail voice of the caller lent weight to the urgency of her call. No, there couldn't have been much time. "Daddy, a lady called. An old lady. She said there isn't much time." I tiptoed up to his armchair. I spoke softly, hesitantly. I was only a child, and I knew nothing of his past. "She says, she says, you must go home." "No!" The armchair shook with the force of his rage. "No! And don't talk to that woman again."  No further calls came from the frail-voiced lady. At least, not that I know of. *** Daddy was nearing the end. The end of a long, long battle. I was in my forties, married, and with children of my own. "Who was she Daddy?" I asked gently, hoping with God's help to bring him to a place of peace and forgiveness. But his face tightened and he t...
